iHELP Community Tax Clinic is a CRA-registered CVITP free tax clinic operated by iHELP, a federally registered not-for-profit organization in Canada. We provide safe, accurate, and confidential tax filing support for low-income individuals and families, helping community members access essential benefits, credits, and financial stability with dignity and respect.

What We’re Unable to Support

 

To keep our services focused and effective, our volunteers are not able to prepare tax returns that include:

  • Returns for a deceased person

  • Self-employment or business income and expenses

  • Rental income or expenses

  • Interest income over $1,200

  • Capital gains or capital losses

  • Bankruptcy during the tax year (or the year before, if not yet filed)

  • Foreign property (Form T1135)

  • Foreign income

Suggested Income Guidelines

 

Use the table below to see if your household may qualify

  • 1 person: up to $40,000

  • 2 people: up to $55,000

  • 3 people: up to $60,000

  • 4 people: up to $65,000

  • 5 people: up to $70,000

  • More than 5 people: $70,000, plus $5,000 for each additional person

You may be able to use our free tax services if you have:

  • A modest income, and

  • A simple tax situation

A modest income means the total family income is less than or equal to the amount shown in the chart below, based on the size of the family. (Ref: CRA)

Canadians

The iHELP Community Tax Clinic, operating under the CRA’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP), provides free, safe, and confidential tax filing support for Canadian citizen with modest incomes and simple tax situations. Whether you are working, unemployed, self-employed with basic income, or receiving social assistance, filing your tax return is essential to access government benefits and credits such as the GST/HST credit and other refundable supports. Our trained volunteers offer respectful, patient, and non-judgmental assistance, helping individuals file accurately, avoid missed benefits, and gain peace of mind during tax season.

Seniors

Filing a tax return is essential for seniors to receive and maintain important benefits such as Old Age Security (OAS), the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), the GST/HST credit, and other age-related supports. Our trained volunteers assist seniors with simple tax situations in a respectful, patient, and non-judgmental environment, helping reduce stress, prevent missed benefits, and support long-term financial stability and independence.

Newcomers

Filing a tax return is an important step for newcomers to access essential benefits and credits such as the GST/HST credit, Canada Child Benefit (CCB), and other income supports that help with settlement and financial stability. Our trained volunteers offer patient, respectful, and culturally sensitive support, helping newcomers understand the tax process, file accurately, and avoid missing benefits due to language barriers or unfamiliarity with the Canadian tax system.

Get Your Documents Ready

To help us prepare your tax return, please bring all relevant documents, such as:

Photo ID

Valid government-issued photo ID

SIN Number

Social Insurance Number (SIN) or a valid temporary SIN

Tax Slip

For example T5007, T4, T4A(P), T4A(OAS),T4E, T2202, T2201

Receipts

Medical expense, rent payment (if applicable)

NOA

Your previous Notice of Assessment (if available)

SUBMISSION

Required Forms and Documents

To proceed with tax filing, clients must complete the follwoing required forms and submit them to the iHELP Community Tax Clinic by email at ihelptaxclinic@gmail.com.

In addition to the completed forms, clients must attach all supporting documents, including relevant tax slips, receipts, and any other information needed to accurately prepare their tax return. Submitting complete and accurate documentation helps ensure timely processing and reduces the need for follow-up requests.

Client Referrals and Access

The iHELP Community Tax Clinic serves individuals across Toronto who are referred by partner organizations and frontline staff, as well as those who self-refer. This flexible referral approach ensures accessible, community-based tax support for individuals and families with modest incomes.
